Basic info on migraine headache

Migraine headache is one of the most common types of headache. The migraine headaches are quite typical and also very painful. Migraines are known to affect more women than men. It is estimated that about two-thirds of people who get migraines are women – this is because of the influence of particular female hormones. Migraines may also run in families.

Migraine types

There are two main types of migraine headaches –

Migraine with aura (classic migraine) – In this type of migraine victims experience an ‘aura’ typically 10 to 30 minutes before actual migraine headache begins. While going through a migraine aura people may see flashing lights, zigzag lines or even a temporary loss of vision. Some people also feel pins and needles sensations in one arm or leg and also face speech difficulty.

Migraine without aura (common migraine) - Most people experience migraines without aura. People experiencing migraine without aura face the same symptoms as experienced in classic migraine except the aura.
